Salutations! My name is Matthew Reinhart; I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and have being performing psychotherapy for the Greater Pittsburgh Community since 2014. When starting therapy, I believe there are things you should know about your therapist for our time to be fruitful. My primary goal in engaging you is to be open and affirming, no matter what you’re bringing to the table. I hope to understand and honor your experience as a human being, regardless of your background, age, race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity or ability status. You have intrinsic value and worth. As such, you know what you need and in turn we will collaborate on the work we do together. We’ll build a foundation of empathy, respect, trust, and non-judgement upon which we can work towards your goals with the hope of improving your quality of life. Needless to say, there are moments when we all need support, and that’s why you’re reading this in the first place. I’m not here to waste your time, patronize you, nor make false promises. What I am here for is to meet you where you’re at and provide the skills, tools, and interventions needed to achieve your goals.

Originally from Pittsburgh’s north side & north hills area, I graduated with my Bachelors of Science in Psychology from University of Pittsburgh in 2009, and my Masters of Science in Counseling Psychology from Chatham University in 2014. My career started working with children in wrap-around settings and later adults in outpatient treatment. I found my passion for working with the LGBTQIA & HIV/AIDS communities very early and geared my graduate studies towards said populations. I immediately pursued this by completing my practicum & internship work at the Persad Center here in Pittsburgh’s East End; later working at other institutions including Pittsburgh Mercy Health System working in community mental health and substance abuse treatment, Outreach Teen & Family Services providing therapy for Teens, as well as Allies for Health & Wellbeing where I am still employed as Behavioral Health manager providing services to the LGBTQIA & HIV/AIDS community.

As your therapist, I hope for honest communication, genuine commitment, and positive effort towards accomplishing your goals. Making progress through therapy takes effort, time and an overall commitment to improving your wellbeing. Therapy is a continually evolving process. It can be fun and interesting, as well as messy and difficult at times. There is a distinct possibility that through therapy your perspectives could grow or change which may result in changes to your relationships, priorities, or life in general. Therapy is not an outcome based procedure; rather it focuses on process and growth during our sessions.

In regard to therapeutic approaches, I first and foremost describe myself as a ‘Rogerian’ or Person centered therapist. This is the foundation for my other modalities which Cognitive & Dialectical behavioral therapies, Trauma informed interventions like Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, narrative therapy, as well as integrated skills including motivational interviewing, mindfulness, gestalt techniques, and advocacy. I attempt to be both eclectic and integrative in these approaches because not one modality is a fit for all clients. Tailoring our time together is essential and the most practical way to resolve the issues you’re presenting to therapy.
